What is up with .ISO files

Post by No-Ma » Fri, 26 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I have recently d/l'ed the new redhat 6.1 iso file off the redhat ftp site.

To my understand this is a cdrom image and with a burner, u can burn it to a
cdrom and then install, etc.

my problem is that my CDR software will not reconize the ISO format, is
there specific software (for Win95/8 or linux) that supports this format or
am I completely wrong with my understanding of what an ISO file is???

Please help, completely LOST in Linux Land.

Somebody might be able to give specific advice if you said what your CD-R
software is, but in general, CD-R software includes an option to burn from
an image file. The option may be called various things -- "burn CD from
image," "burn ISO image file," etc. Browse around on your menus. A few
packages include the functionality as a separate utility. Some may require
that you rename the image file (change the .iso extension to something
else).

Easy CD Creator will do ISO format.  Also, you can download format
convertors for a variety of programs.

In Linux both xcdroast and cdrtoaster recognise .iso images.  In
cdrtoaster, just put it in the top left text box (where it says 'use
existing image') and in xcdroast just make it look at that image for the
burning.

cdrecord (text based), cdrecord, xcdroast all three use .iso files just
fine.  Point them at the image and they'll take care of the rest.

1. ISO ISO ISO ISO HELP

I checked Redhat's installation site and they don't give the correct
directory on their FTP site to get the ISO image.  Which image should I
get for a bootable image?    There is a zoot-i386.iso and there is also
a redhat-6.2-i386.iso -- what does each contain????

It is a big download either way, even on a fast connection.  Any help
would be appreciated.
