Hello,
I have been successfully using RH 6.0/6.2 for a year on my main machine
an running ipchains to provide firewalling/masquerading for my home
network.
I've now got hold of an old P90 box, and have set it up *console only*
to be
the firewall. Everything works great, except that on boot/reboot the
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward file always contains 0 (zero), which
prevents
IP forwarding working. I can do an echo 1 >
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
manually and then it works OK.
I used to use the netcfg GUI app to "enable IPV4 packet forwarding" and
can't figure out the equivalent from a console. I have routing enabled
in
the linuxconf section Config/Networking/Client tasks/Routing &
gateways/Defaults
ALternatively, is there a strtup script I could put the echo command
into, I am
a wee bit confused due to the plethora of network scripts...
Any and all suggestions appreciated,
LGFR
