Samba Name Mangling

Post by mark » Wed, 06 Sep 2000 19:28:55

Hi
I have samba up and running, though there are a couple of annoying problems
My smb.conf looks like this, and i can see the shares from my nt boxes.
Distro=redhat6.2
The server share is a windows partition
[global]
workgroup = Home
netbios name = Samba Server
server string = Samba Server
interfaces = eth0 192.168.0.1/24 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0
security = SHARE
log level = 0
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 50
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
os level = 65
dns proxy = No
wins support = Yes
comment = Linux Server
guest account = root
announce as = Win95
fstype = vfat
read only = No
guest ok = Yes
preserve case = Yes
mangle case = No
mangled names = No
writable = Yes
default case = lower
;*******************section Server*****************
[Server]
default case = lower
comment = Server
path = /mnt/hd/Server Files
guest account = root
read only = No
guest ok = Yes
preserve case = Yes
mangle case = No
mangled names = No
writable = Yes

Even though i have the preserve case and name mangling on no and yes
respectively, when i try to save a word file it makes the result all caps.
Also when i open a word file, even though it has no illigel characters it
mangles it eg xxx.doc is ~$xx.doc . I've tried everything and read all the
man pages. What can i do to get rid of this problem. Thanks in advance

Samba Name Mangling

How about setting log level to 1, 2 or even higher and then reading the
log files?

1. Samba - Mangled Names

I have smb file sharing set up on RH v6.1.  When I copy items from my Linux
machine to a shared directory I set up called "/smbshare/data" the item
looks like:

"devices*wyse60"

But when I look at it from Windows explorer (NT4.0 sp5) it looks like:

"DEVIC~WK"

I have smb.conf set up with:

Mangled Names = Yes

and in the [data] section I have the same thing.

Isn't there a way to get NT to read the names properly?

You help is greatly appreciated.

Bill
