Hi All,

Does anyone have a favorite 1000 base-T PCI card
they would recommend?

Also, it occures to me, is a standard PCI slot
fast enought to take advangare of 1000 base-T?

Many thanks,

A standard PCI slot is marginal for 1G Ethernet, a PCI express slot is
fine.

IMHO Only Intel network cards.

I use:
http://www.intel.com/design/network/products/lan/controllers/82541pi.htm
on standard PCI. Transfers I had were above 100 MiB/s and sometimes
AFAIR touches theoretical limit - 125 MiB/s.

Regards.

1. 10/100/1000 Base-TX adapter in 'forced' Gigabit mode

Hi.

At our site, we have a few Gigabit adapters installed on hosts running
AIX 5.2.

# lsdev -Cc adapter | grep ent
ent0  Available 5s-08 10/100/1000 Base-TX PCI-X Adapter (14106902)

However, we seem to be unable to force the link speed to "1000". When
I use the lsattr/chdev commands on the cards, the only valid values
for the 'media_speed' attribute seem to be :

# lsattr -REl ent0 -a media_speed
10_Half_Duplex
10_Full_Duplex
100_Half_Duplex
100_Full_Duplex
Auto_Negotiation

Is there a way to set the adapter to Gigabit speed ? Should we be able
to ?

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

Sincerely,

John Smith
