Hi, I am new to unix and linux. I am trying to setup my linux box
(486DX2-66). I am using 3Com 3c509 Ethernet card. The linux box is kernel
1.1.59 which is a CD version of linux plug and play. When I boot up, the
linux kernel reconized the 3 com card and shows follows:
<6>eth0, 3c509 at 0x300 tag 1. BNC port, address 00 20 af 2f f6 f0, IRQ 10.
After I boot up, I setup the configure-network from control panel. After I
entered the ip address for the eth0 device, I push the "Try Changes" key. I
always get an error as follows:
Error:SIOCSIFFLAGS: Try again
SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable.
I have been spending too much time and bought the linux bible. I still can
not figure it out. Please help...
Here are my configuration:
ifconfig eth0

Whenever I ping to the "17.145.20.2", I didn't get any response back.
However, if I play around with SLIP as following:
dip /etc/connection.dip
with the bougus phone number, I can able to ping the "17.145.20.2" although
I could never connect to the other end.
