wu-ftpd 2.6 connects slow

Post by Don Awal » Thu, 28 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I am running Mandrake 6.1, and even when I ftp localhost on the same box, it
immediately comes back and says "Connected to ...", but it takes a good
minute or so before I get the '220 ...ready' banner, and then Name: so I can
log in.

I have never seen this kind of delay, any ideas what's wrong or what it's
doing?

Thanks..

Is your DNS setup properly? Does it also happen when you use IP
addresses instead of host names?

I've got the same problem and its not DNS.

The "Connected to ..." message comes up immediately (so DNS is not the
problem) but the "220 xxxxx FTP server (Version wu-2.6.0(1) Thu Oct 21
12:27:00 EDT 1999) ready" message does not appear for about a minute.
Same happens when using IP addresses.

It looks like its some sort of timeout. I thought it might be waiting
for an identd lookup so I installed identd and I still get a delay.

There is some change between wu-ftpd 2.5.* and 2.6.0 that is causing this.

Anybody got any clues?

Well I managed to fix mine. The problem was I have a non-existant
nameserver set up in /etc/resolv.conf

Changing it to this:

search my_private_domain
nameserver 127.0.0.1

fixed things even though I don't have a nameserver on localhost.

Hope this helps,
Erik
