Network management tool

Post by Thomas Camero » Sun, 28 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Hi all -

I am looking for a network management tool like SunNet Manager or HP
OpenView, but written for Linux.  I know, it is asking a lot, and I
don't need it to be as full-featured as SNM or HPOV, but I do need
something that understands SNMP traps and can do a ping to each device
every 10 minutes or so to make sure everything is up.

Any pointers?

Thanks!

While its not a complete answer to you question check out Big Brother at
http://www.iti.qc.ca/iti/users/sean/bb-dnld/ works quite nicly and pings all
devices every 5 minutes.

1. Network Management Tools

Are there any network management tools out there capable of monitoring
different types of network traffic (tcp/ip, tokenring, novell, etc.), producing
routine reports, etc. for heterogeneous unix networks?  If so, which ones
are the best/worst?  Seeking all other information and/or experiences
with the network management tools, also.  Thanks in advance.
