multiple nic, multiple gw

multiple nic, multiple gw

okay.

i have a windows nt machine with three nics in it.  if i do not assign
default gateways at all, and keep each nic on a different subnet, then i
can establish three unique ftp sessions on three unique nics to a
multi-homed host on the other side of the wire.  life is good.

i need to put a bridge and eventually a router between each nic and the
remote host for testing.

so now this requires me to assign a default gateway for each of the nics,
each unique.  nt loses its mind ( as well it should ) and doesn't work at
all.

anyone think of a way to do this with linux?

thanks!!!

This is a little off topic for a Linux news group, but how did you get
the NIC's in NT to configure without any hardware conflicts?

The reason I ask is that I have been trying to configure a secondary NIC
in NT for the same such purpose and have been unsuccessful with my
installation due to I/O conflicts.

My setup is a PII 350, ASUS MOBO, with a 3com Fast Etherlink XL PCI NIC
model 3c905b(primary) and 3com Etherlink III ISA NIC model
3c509b(secondary).

The driver for the ISA NIC installs fine (PNP is disabled and the IRQ and
I/O are assigned using the supplied DOS config utility - IRQ=7, I/O=250).
My primary card is a PCI has the standard out of the box settings
supplied by the drivers.

If you have the time I would really appreciate the help.

P.S. please reply via news group.

1. multiple NICs, multiple IP addresses?

(This is related to my problem titled "need help w/ 2 NICs and - ping,
portmap, NFS, ...")

If a machine has more than one NIC, must they be on different subnets?
 Say,
192.168.10.x  and  192.168.11.x  and so forth?  Or can they be on the
same
subnet (192.168.10.1  and 192.168.10.2)?

Is it possible for them to share a single IP address????
