I'm tring to set up a Linux WWW server.  Could someone tell me which
is the fastest httpd.  I have been reccomended apache, but I can only find
a freebsd version - will this work?   One last newbie question - what is
standalone mode - can I also run an ftpd at the same time ??

Please reply by e-mail.

Which is the fastest httpd?  That's a matter of opinion with no clear
answer.

I use the Apache 0.8.14 server here.  It's a nice server.  Due to
differences in the executables between the two systems, the FreeBSD
server binary will NOT work under Linux (although I am given to believe
that FreeBSD's Linux emulation allows the Linux binary to work under
Linux.)  I don't use Apache because of the performance, I use it
because it's freely distributable and because it allows multi-homed
servers.

Get the source (according the the README, the Apache people ONLY distribute
source) and follow the directions to build it yourself.  It really isn't
very hard.  If you need help with multi-homing, send me email.

1. Novell Netware WWW Servers versus Linux WWW Servers

Hi,
could you please consider this posting on behalf of a colleague :

Does any one have experience with Novell Netware  WEB servers, e.g.
        Sitebuilder ?
Are they stable, do they properly support modern WWW facilities, such as
        CGI, SSI?
Unless I provide my college with strong reasons in favour of a Linux
based WWW server, they will switch to a Novell Netware based one, due to
the lack of Unix expertise within the college.
I will be most grateful for any advise on this matter.
