ISO ISO ISO ISO HELP

Post by burns1.. » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

I checked Redhat's installation site and they don't give the correct
directory on their FTP site to get the ISO image.  Which image should I
get for a bootable image?    There is a zoot-i386.iso and there is also
a redhat-6.2-i386.iso -- what does each contain????

It is a big download either way, even on a fast connection.  Any help
would be appreciated.

ISO ISO ISO ISO HELP

Post by glen vajcne » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

Someone posted about this a while ago. If I remember correctly, the
redhat-6.2... iso is just a symlink to the zoot one. Go for zoot. It's the
'codename' for 6.2 and it should be fine. Just remember to burn it as a
__disk image__ and not just write the .iso file to the cd...

cheers

1. Do I need both .iso files - Mandrake80-inst.iso & Mandrake80-ext.iso? whats the difference

Hi,

Never ever touched linux in my life, thought I'd mess around with it,
so I'm downloading the .iso images on my 56k modem, slow, but free.
Anyways, on the mandrake ftp, there are 2 images, Mandrake80-inst.iso
& Mandrake80-ext.iso. Do I need to burn both images to install
mandrake linux later on? or only one of them? I couldn't find any info
in the readme concerning this matter. Is one of them the install cd
and the other includes applications? Just wanted to know, since
downloading two cds takes a long time and don't want to do any extra
downloading, just too excited and want to get started on screwing up
my system, woo. Thanks for any help.

PS-What are some good websites for Linux-Newbie stuff? and newsgroups
for linux newbie questions too. So far I know of this newsgroup,
beginnerslinux.org, and linuxnewbies.org. Are there any better
references out there? Thanks again.
