Printing Problem with parport

Printing Problem with parport

Post by Larry Dar » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

 Here is what happened....

In the beginning printing works fine.....
Then I had the urge to install network..  Put in NIC, connect to hub,
great computers talk to one another.

Attempting to print....
get the following error message:
Oct  4 14:24:28 goblin kernel: parport0: PC-style at 0x378
[SPP,ECP,ECPEPP,ECPPS
2]
Oct  4 14:24:28 goblin kernel: parport0: detected irq 7; use procfs to
enable in
terrupt-driven operation.
Oct  4 14:24:28 goblin kernel: parport0: no ID data returned by device.
Oct  4 14:24:28 goblin kernel: lp0: using parport0 (polling).

It prints, but junk
Not really junk but 1 number up, every other letter so:
alias rm='rm -i"
gets printed like
amias!sm='sm!-i'

Any debugging help with this will be greatly appreciated.
Oh by the way,   I double checked the cables, and that was not it.

A first guess is that the nic and the parallel port have
an interrupt conflict.  See if it is using IRQ 7.
