Trying to get sound working under RH5.1 on a 380D...i've looked at the
various linux-laptop websites, but none really help with the details...i
used to have it working on a 380D with Slackware, but gues what? i
didn't save the setting ;-(

I got sound working on a TP 380D. There was no real magic to it: all I
needed was to cold boot into RH5.1 and ran sndconfig. The program
automatically detected the sound hardware as an SbPro and selected the
correct settings. Next, I had the sndconfig play a sound sample (Linus
pronouncing "Linux") and that was it.

The reason why I mentioned a cold boot is that I have Win95 on another
partition. I used that to make sure the sound works. Curiously, sound
does not work if I warm boot while running Win95.

The problem of course is that you still won't have the 16-bit support
that you need for MP3, RealAudio, etc. The only solution I've found
for this is to get the OSS drivers (if there's a better solution, I'd
like to hear about it!).
