Greetings.
I have recently taken the Linux plunge. I purchased the Infomagic Aug
4CD develper set and tried to install the Slakware 1.2.x series kernel
on my system. Unfortunately I could never get my Adaptec 2940 card
working with that kernel series. I could boot off the floppy but was
unable to boot off my hard disk. Someone mentioned a patch for the
2940 included in the disk set but I was unable to find it. Anyone
have any idea how to patch 1.2.8 to include 2940 support? Or, where
to get a 1.2.x series with 2940 support built in?
In the meantime after some frustration with the above and dying to get
into Linux I decided to try the 1.3.x series which I was told did
support the Adaptec 2940. I followed the instructions closely and
everything seemed to compile fine with the 1.3.15 kernel. I am now
able to get Linux running off my hard drive using loadlin. Yeah!
I have two problems now:
1) I keep getting the following error if I try to access the man
pages:
Error executing formatting or display command
System command exited with status 35584
No manual entry for ls
#
2) I need to install some of the packages I didn't initially install
off the slakware set (like X). What is the best way to go about this?
Should I do a complete reinstallation of everything I want and then do
the kernel upgrade again? Or, is there an easier way.
Thanks for any assistance.
