Named locks up during boot

Named locks up during boot

Post by Xces » Mon, 16 Nov 1998 04:00:00

During boot, after named has started the machine just hangs there. From
the suggestions of other people I checked /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/hosts

The information in /etc.resolv.conf is correct. In /etc/hosts I have the
regular 127.0.0.1    localhost    localhost.localdomain

I tried to rename named to named.old in /etc/rc.d/init.d The computer
started fine bypassed named (I was dancing all around my room) I saw the
login prompt, tried to login as root, typed my pass but the machine then
hangs there. Also tried as a regular user, the machine still hangs.

    I am running redhat 5.2, kernel 2.0.36, dhcp, 3com 3c509 ethernet with a
cablemodem. A week ago, after I finished installing rh 5.2 everything was
working. It stopped working just yersterday.

1. lock-ups during make world

This morning I did a make world, (first a make buildworld, then a make
installworld), and this resulted in several lock-ups at random places.

I repeated the progress serveral times, and finally it went ok (after 8
tries!), the same with make installworld, this went ok after 2 tries...

Now I have a happy runing FreeBSD 4.1.1. STABLE system, but I still want to
know why there were lockups, someone has any idea? I've cvsupped, make
world'd before (4.0 RELEASE to 4.1 RELEASE) and that time everyting went ok
(no lockups whatsoever).
