Toshiba Tecra 8000 Sound Problem

Post by Vladislav Dembski » Wed, 14 Mar 2001 21:51:48

Hi All,

I have just installed SuSE 7.1 on my Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop. It was clean
install - default + office. Kernel 2.4.0. Everithing is working fine except
sound card. Yast2 does not detect my sound card and I tried to configure it
manually but unsuccessfull. Earlier I did installation of SuSE 6.4 and it was
working.

What I did:

Sound card driver:    Yamaha OPL3SA2+
Sound card Model:    generic Yamaha OPL3SA2
Options:
    Port #:        0x538
    SB port #:    0x220
    WSS port #:    0x530
    FM port #:    0x388
    MIDI port #:    0x330
    IRQ #:        5
    1st DMA #:    1
    2nd DMA #:    0
    ISA PnP detection:    0

Error:
An error occured during installing generic Yamaha OPL3SA2 (Yamaha OPL3SA2+).
The kernel module snd-card-opl3sa2 for sound support could not be loaded.

The same error was if I tried to use OPL3SA3 model.

In Toshiba Hardware Configuration options the card has the following options:
I/O address:
    WSS:    530h
    SBPro:    220h
    Synthesizer:    388h
    Control:    538h
    MPU401:    330h

Interrupt Level:    5
DMA Channel:
    Playback:    1
    Record:    0

What I did wrong?

Thank you,

Is your card supported by alsa? IIRC SuSE6.4 didn't have alsa but 7.1 uses
it as the default sound driver system. try the oss drivers from the 6.4 CDs
(not the trial one but the older 'free' one).

Yes my Yamaha OPL3SAx card is supported by ALSA. But it is not PnP card in my
laptop. I have similar PnP card in my desktop system and it is working fine
with the same driver.

Best wishes,

1. freebsd 4.2 on toshiba tecra 8000 sound & pcmcia issues

Hi,

I'm a newbie attempting to install 4.2 on a Toshiba Tecra 8000.  I'm
now stuck attempting to get the sound and ethernet configured.  The
Tecra has a built in sound card and I attempted to add the pcm line,
but could not find an additional device and certainly not the snd0
device after issuing the MAKEDEV command.  Also, my Lucent WaveLAN
card is recognized, but I am not getting an IP number, and can't reach
the internet.  I've enable pccard in rc.conf and verified that the
WaveLAN card and wi are in pccard.conf.  When I attempt to configure a
network interface through /stand/sysinstall, I start to receive errors
when I confirm dhcp - the errors are xmit failed, tx buffer allocation
failed, and device timeout.
HELP!!!
I'm frustrated after two days of working on these two issues and I've
been unable to find detailed instructions on this model with FreeBSD.
Thanks in advance.
