how to change the font of menu of open office

Post by Jinbo Li » Sat, 18 May 2002 19:31:08

I tried to install open office 1.0 on redhat linux 7.3, it works except for
a minor flaw. the font of menu(just the menu, the font of document has no
problem) is so ugly and very hard to see. I don't know why. I tried to
change the locale of my desktop environment, the problem is still the same.
so anyone knows how I can chanbe the font of open office's menu?
is it because of the default font of x-server? if so how can I change the
default font of x-server?

any comment are appreciated.

I think that this question is addressed in the OpenOffice FAQ.

Er, http://www.openoffice.org/faq.html <- does that count?

From /usr/OpenOffice/README:

In OpenOffice.org you can change the font used for screen display and
printing by replacing it with a different font installed on your system.
This can be done using the font replacement function. Choose Tools -
Options - OpenOffice.org - Font Replacement to access this function. To
change the font of the OpenOffice.org user interface, you have to replace
the default font "Andale Sans UI" with another font and mark the "always"
setting for this replacement. Refer to the OpenOffice.org Help for a
detailed explanation of the dialog.

thanks for the tip, I solved the problem, I can't find the 'Andale Sans UI',
but I do find a font called 'Interface User', then I replaced it with the
font I want, it works. thanks

1. Open Office icons in KDE Menu?

I just installed OpenOffice to replace Star Office6.0beta(expires end of
the month).  Because I am lazy I just uninstalled Star Office and made a
symbolic link so my original star office path points to the open office
path.  Now that worked great since all the openoffice apps run from the KDE
menu.

Now my problem is the icons are gone in the KDE menu.  I did a find of
.png and .xpm files in the open office directory and found nothing.  I
noticed kwin displays the icons correctly with opened openoffice apps, so
the icon must be embedded in the binary.   How do I get the KDE menu to see
the icons?  K Menu Editor does not let the user pick a binary for an icon.
