Need help with FTP install

Post by Edward Youn » Tue, 01 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Hello,

During the installation, I get up to the part where I have to enter an FTP
site or IP. I tried using ftp.nodomainname.net, but then it says that it
cannot resolve the FTP name. Isn't DHCP supposed to automatically supply
DNS? Then, I tried putting the IP in directly, but then it says that it
cannot connect to an FTP server.

I am using a cable modem, and I chose DHCP for the boot protocol screen.
Looking at the messages terminal using alt-arrow, I can see that the
network card successfully got an IP address from the DHCP server. Does
anybody know what might be the problem?

Oh, one thing I noticed was that the IP I get from DHCP for Linux is
always the same IP. This does not usually happen when I get an IP from
DHCP for my MacOS. Could this be part of the problem?

Thanks for any help,
Edward

When trying to download redhat linux 6.1 I get the message

    Retrieving
    Retrieving base/stage2.img
Then the message
    FTP
Unable to retrieve the second stage ramdisk: Bad server response

And recently it has changed to not even telling me its trying to retrieve

I've tried many ftp sites and I know my IP address is correct.  What am I
