Yes,  u can't get it to work easily. I had a card similar to yours and the
only way to get it to work was by starting DOS, running EEPRO.SYS in config
sys and then use loadlin to start Linux.

This was all too confusing so I did buy a real SB :)

Regs.

1. Aztech Sound Galaxy Pro 16 II on Linux: which sound options are best?

After some experimenting I have managed to run an Aztech Sound Galaxy
Pro 16 II (FCC-ID I38-MMSN8322) on Linux.
First one needs to get
http://www1.vobis.de/bbs/firmen/aztech/sg/p16ii/p16ii-1.zip, for which
one must find someone to extract hwset.exe from on Windows (can this
somehow be done on Linux as well?).
Then after booting with FreeDOS (or something similar) one can run
hwset.exe from foppy. That tool allows to set the hardware parameters
and write them to the eprom.

I have set the following parameters:

Sound Blaster Port 220
MPU401 Port 330
MSS Port 530
SB IRQ 5
CD IRQ 11
CD Type any
CD DMA disabled
MPU401 IRQ 7

Now the card can be used on Linux (I tried 2.2.25):

the CD-ROM (Mitsumi FX001D in my case) is used with modprobe mcdx
mcdx=0x634,11 (mcd also works).
Works nicely so far (I have only tested data CDs yet)

For audio I used modprobe opl3sa2 io=0x220 mss_io=0x530 mpu_io=0x330
irq=7 dma=0 dma2=1

Unfortunately I sometimes get ad1848: Interrupt test failed (IRQ7)

Concerning these parameters, io and dms2 can be set to anything it
seems.
Playing sounds via /dev/audio works. I can also launch aumix, but I
cannot change the volume with it.

In addition, I can also use modprobe opl3 io=0x388

Alternatively, one can configure audio using modprobe sb io=0x220 irq=5
("SB 2.01 detected OK") and modprobe mpu401 io=0x330 irq=7. Output does
work, albeit at much higher volume. aumix cannot even be launched.
/dev/sndstat says:

OSS/Free:3.8s2++-971130
Load type: Driver loaded as a module
Kernel: Linux debian 2.2.25 #2 Sun Nov 16 13:49:10 CET 2003 i486
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:

Card config:

Audio devices:
0: Sound Blaster (8 BIT/MONO ONLY) (2.01)

Synth devices:
0: Yamaha OPL3

Midi devices:
0: Sound Blaster
1: MPU-401 0.0  Midi interface #1

Timers:
0: System clock

Mixers:

Does anybody have an idea which parameters to best use to configure that
card?

Thanks.
