Serial Mouse on TurboLinux

Serial Mouse on TurboLinux

Linux Gurus:

I have TurboLinux version 4.0 (this uses the linux 2.2.12 kernel)
running on an AMD K6 with 64 meg memory and a serial mouse.  This
was all working fine until just recently.  Althought I do not know
what caused the problem, it could have been when I plugged a modem
into the other serial port with hopes of using the FAX utility.
When it became obvious that it would take more work than setting
up the MS fax, I opted for the latter.  Since then I have removed
the serial modem.

Now the mouse just does not work in linux mode (this is a dual
boot system), but works fine in Windows mode.  My guess is that
there is some software file that Linux modified causing this
problem, but I can't seem to locate it.  The setting in the
XF86Config (in /etc/X11) is unchanged from previously:

Section "Pointer"
    Protocol    "MouseSystems"
    Device      "/dev/ttyS0"
    Buttons     3
EndSection

The setting in /etc/sysconfig/mouse is unchanged:

MOUSENAME="Mouse Systems (3-button)"
MOUSETYPE=MouseSystems
MOUSEDEV=/dev/ttyS0
MOUSEBAUD=1200
MOUSEBUTTONS=3
XEMU3=no
XCHORD=no
CLEARDTR=no
CLEARRTS=no
WHEELMOUSE=no

Does anyone know what I need to do to get the mouse working again?
Thanks for your expert help.

See if /dev/modem is the same as /dev/mouse
or if they use the same irq.  Windows is plug and
play, so if the hw is no longer there, it probably
doesn't assign the irq and you don't get the conflict.
