sending a help enquiry to Infomagic got me..

yeah yeah

except the Compaq prolinea NEC CD-260 isn't recognised by
Linux as a source for installation

What I did is: Get a Linux bootdisk & rootdisk, and fdisk.  Use fdisk to
split my drive into an MS-DOS partition, a Linux partition, and swap space.
Get the Developer's Resource.  Copy the Slackware distribution onto the
MS-DOS partition, from MS-DOS.  Boot the Linux bootdisk, and install Linux
from the MS-DOS partition on the hard drive.

This means you can't use the installation option that lets you keep things
on the CD-ROM instead of on the hard drive.
