RH 6.0 and kickstart - won't find Adaptec-1542

Post by Bill Peterse » Sun, 16 May 1999 04:00:00

This is really strange.
I am playing with RH 6.0 and kickstart.
I took at system which I just loaded with 6.0
and ran mkkickstart.  Then adjusted for the network card
difference, and tried to load on another system,
using a bootnet image floppy (for NFS).

1. If I use "linux ks=floppy" it can not find my adaptec 1542
I have tried no mention of the card,
tried: device scsi aha154x --opts "irq=11,io=0x330"
which says there is no aha154x device even though
this is what is in the README.ks
tried: device scsi aha1542 --opts "irq=11,io=0x330"
          says it can't find it

2. So I tried doing a normal boot off of the floppy
(just pressing enter rather than entering linux ks=floppy)
and it finds the adapatec card just fine!!!

What is going on?!

Bill Petersen

1. ***1.2.12 won't start with ADAPTEC 1542 HELP ME!!!!!!***

Hi there,

I upgraded my system. Since then Linux won't boot any more.

Here is what I got:
-PCI Main Board
-Award BIOS 4.50 PG
-Adaptec 1542CF
-Fujitsu M1606S-512 (SCSI)
-Maxtor IDE

The IDE drive is my Linux partition, the SCSI drive is my DOS partition.
When I boot DOS (from floppy), everything works fine. It boots, I can
access my SCSI drive. But when I try to boot Linux, the system won' come
up.
I boot Linux from floppy, what I get is

...
SCSI: Adaptec 1542
SCSI: 1 host
abort command due to timeout: pid 0, scsi 0, id 0, lun 0 Test unit ready
00 00 00 00 00
SCSI host 0 abort() timed out - resetting

abort command due to timeout: pid 0, scsi 0, id 0, lun 0 Test unit ready
00 00 00 00 00
etc

The little LED (or whatever it is) is now on all the time.

Please help me, I go nuts.
