Partitioning errors with fips

Partitioning errors with fips

Hiya,
I am trying to partition a 40MB HD using fips and get the following
error:

Error : Invalid End Head : Partition 1:5

Now the HD stats are :

        CHS : 977/5/17

And the partitioning table that fips prints on the screen before
aborting is:

Part    Bootable   Start     System     End     Start   No. of  MB
                  H   C   S           H   C   S Sector sectors

1       yes       1   0   1    06h    5  818  17  17     83521  40

Does this make sense to anyone ?  Most of this is gobbledegook to
me - what are cylinders, heads and sectors and what is wrong with my
"End Head" ?!

Also what do I need to do to get fips to partition this disk?

Cheers Mik.

Heads count from 0, so if you have 5 they lie in the range 0-4.
So, 5 is out of range.

Use any fdisk to fix this.
