Slackware 96 & empty mail messages

Post by Gene Brigma » Sun, 01 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I've installed Slackware 96 on a couple of systems and in both cases,
every piece of incoming mail has what seems to be an associated EMPTY
message with it.  I see this in both pine and elm.  I thought it might
be biff so I disabled it.  No change.  Has anyone seen this or have
any hint as to where I start looking?  Nothing in the sendmail man
page looked useful.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Gene

Yes. I get the same problem when I upgraded from  1.2.13 to 2.0.0 . It
seems  to be a bug in  popclient (I used  it to retrieve mails from my
ISP). I replaced it by fetchpop and all works fine now.

Manu.

1. Slackware 96 cdrom error messages

Get something like the following near the end of the install:

hdc:  cdrom_decode_status  status=0x51 error=0x30
....(repeats endlessly, interspersed with something like):
atapi reset complete
i/o error, dev (?) 16:00, sector 929745  (sorry, can't read my own scrawl)

only option is to restart.

Have 1000 meg allotted to Linux.

This resides on the outer portion of 2 GB drive.  Is this a hardware
addressing issue?  It seems to happen in the TeX package and the X server
dev. package.  Is it likely my cd drive, or is it the cdrom.  (I cleaned
the cd).
