Hi all:
I am starting to install Linux from the "Universe" package `
published by Springer-Verlag and had a few questions.
I was trying to use LILO boot manager so I could boot from the
hard drive. I have a 1.6 GB hard drive partitioned into three
physical partitions: hda1 has DOS/Win 3.11, hda2 is a 150 MB
Linux partition, and hda3 is the Linux swap space of 20 MB.
Right now I boot of the floppy disk for Linux (DOS boots regularily
from the hard drive), that was created using rawrite.exe. The
CD-ROM is hdc. The problem is I have no "/boot/boot.b" file LILO requires
to run with. I can't seem to find this file anywhere, though
/etc/lilo.conf is there, as well as the LILO executable. What gives?
The other related question I have is about the partitions themselves.
Do I need to make Linux the bootable partition? Right now it is
the DOS partition. Can I safely change the DOS partiton to not
be bootable using the built-in Linux program (FIPS?)? Will this trash
my DOS/Win files? (I am shortly buying a Zip drive to backup
my hard drive, in case I*up).
TIA,
George Krumins
