Hi!
I'm having problems with Netscape Navigator 3.01 Gold.
I have netscape set up with the "old library trick"
to prevent it from producing bus errors.
My netscape start script looks like this:
#!/bin/sh
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib/netscape
exec netscape.bin $*
This works fine using libXpm.so.4.6 and libc.so.5.2.18.
But with this setup I can't print directly to the
printer anymore!
Everytime I try to print from netscape using the print
command "lpr" it gives me the following error message:
lp: Find_printcap_entry: name 'lp' has meta character 'l'
This error message comes from the lpr command (I'm using
LPRng-3.2.5, but it's the same for LPRng-3.1.8).
The lpr command itself works, I use it all the time.
It's also possible to let netscape print to a file
and then print this file using "lpr". So it looks like
netscape does some strange thing when supplying the lpr
command with printing arguments (btw, I just can't see
why lpr is considering "l" a meta character)
But the strangest thing is: when I let netscape use the
current libraries (libc.so.5.4.23 and libXpm.so.4.8),
printing suddenly works!
So I seem to have the choice: to use a stable netscape
without the possibility to print directly to the printer
or to be able to print but to live with bus errors!
Any other suggestion?
