Hi everyone,

Can someone help me, I have got a PC with a 20GB Harddisk, Windows 2000
Professional is installed on the first 5 Gb partition. The rest have not
been partitioned. I would like to install Linux Redhat 7.0 on this machine
dual bootable with Win2000. How will I go about doing it without
uninstalling Win2000.

Could someone please give me the procedure or point to the right place on
the net.

Thanx,
Me, Myself and I

try:
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/Linux+WinNT.html
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/Linux+NT-Loader.html
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/Multiboot-with-LILO.html

I imagine a good deal the info will apply to 2000 as well, especialy the
first link. (It's been updated recently)

You can use LILO. It lets you choose what OS you want to boot during
bootup. Comes with almost every distribution.

1. Installing Core Linux on Win98/Win2k dual boot system - help please !!!

I have just downloaded Corel Linix from the web and would like to set it up
on my machine to have a look at it - afterall - everyone says its brilliant
- but i want to have a mess with it.

I have 2 hard drives in my machine (both FAT32)

C: drive - Win98 FE
D: drive - Win2k

I will shortly be swapping these around so that Win2k is on C drive and
Win98 on d drive.

I will be creating a 5Gb partition on C drive (20Gb total) for Linux. I will
do this using Partition Magic Ver 5 - Will there be any problems with Linux
if i create the partition this way ?

I installed Win98 first and then Win2k - so it is using the standard Win2k
boot menu to allow me to dual boot between either OS.

I am pretty sure the installation of Linux onto my 5Gb partition will be
easy enough - but i am worried about the setup of the boot menu. Will Linux
automatically detect the presence of Win98 and Win2k and add itself to the
boot menu ? Or do i need to use another boot menu to set all this up ?

I would be very grateful if someone could either offer me advice on how to
do this or point me to a web site with detailed instructions or a walk
through for it.

Also - how good is Linux at detecting my hardware and having appropriate
drivers for it ? Whenever i have been searching for updated drivers for
Windows - i havent seen any Linux drivers. Where should i look for them if
it doesnt work correctly ?

Many thanks

Matt
