Hint wanted for missing NET-PF-4 and NET-PF-5 modules

Post by Terry » Sat, 10 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Built my kernel and get 'MODPROBE: Can't find NET-PF-4' error.
Sure could use a hint in isolating where, in the kernel building
process, I left these out.

Thanks,
T.

net-pf-4 is for ipx
net-pf-5 is for appletalk

If you dont want to use them then stop
the messages by setting in /etc/conf/modules

# alias net-pf-4            ipx
alias net-pf-4            off
# alias net-pf-5            appletalk
alias net-pf-5            off

Wolfhardt:

IPX and Appletalk - can't say I need either!

Thanks for taking the time to reply; your info is very helpful.

T.

1. Missing Modules: net-pf-4 and net-pf-5

When I try to use my network card (RealTek), the module loads but
immediately complains about the missing net-pf-4 and net-pf-5 modules.

What configuration options do I need to select for the kernel to build
these modules?

Naturally, I get "Network not available" if I try to ping anything
except loopback.

BTW, I got Linux to load---it turns out LOADLIN does NOT like starting
the Linux kernel above the 1024th cylinder (after LBA addressing
translation---my hard drive has c/h/s of 1247/255/63).
