I recently got hold of Linux v2.0, not having much room on my C: drive I
purchased & installed a Western Digital HD. The new drive works
perfectly fine in DOS and Windows95. I have no problem using it. BUT...
I can not install Linux as the Linux fdisk program does not detect the
new drive.
From LILO boot;
boot: ramdisk hd=1651,1663
Loading ramdisk....
.
.
Partition check
hda: hda1, hda2, hda3, hda4
but no hdb!
Nor is my CDROM detected although I suspect that this is due to the
fact that I am using the 'bare' boot disk.
If I run LILO without any extra options I get two errors for both hard
drives:
hd.c ST-506 interface disk with more than 16 heads detected probably...
(disk1: cyl=827, sec=63, head=32)
hd.c ST-506 interface disk with more than 16 heads detected probably...
(disk0: cyl=825, sec=63, head=32)
So I therefore know that LILO can detected them but does not know how to
used the WD. It only knows how to use hda with help from the 'ramdrive
hd' option.
If I continue with the installation inwhich I have specified the hda
parameters I find that Linux fdisk can repartition /dev/hda.
Although it can not partition /dev/hdb ie.
fdisk /dev/hdb results in the message
Unable to read /dev/hdb
Can help me? I'm lost as to what to do!
Harware Specification:

AMIBIOS 1993
Hard Drives: (Both on primary port/ on same cable)
Conner CFS850A
Western Digital AC2850 (set to slave)
I have not found any jumper settings on the conner drive to see
if it is set to slave or otherwise. I am assuming it is somehow set to
master by default.
CDROM NEC CDR 272 (set to slave) connected to secondary port
