try disabling the onboard serial ports on your motherboard to eliminate
any conflicts. (via bios setup screen)
try the lsdev command
did the modem come with windows drivers disk? If it did then it probably
is a winmodem.

Windows has found new hardware and is looking for a driver for it.
So I stick in the disk and lo and behold windows gets the "driver" and
there we are.
I could have made it choose a standard modem I suppose, but my point
was that most modems come with drivers for windows whether they need
them or not.

What's your point? Under Linux you don't need a special driver to use a realQuote:> I could have made it choose a standard modem I suppose, but my point

C'est l'temps d'essayer Linux

We have software, food, music, news, search,
history, electronics and genealogy pages.
I realy love how windows will ask me to produce an install disk anytime I
TURN ON MY SCANNER! I've already installed the software. It works. If I
hit cancel on the install request, WINDOWS ASKS AGAIN. OVER AND OVER AND
OVER AND OVER.
The only way to stop it is to hit the escape key about 10 times in very
rapid succession.
Duh... uh... removeable hardware? What's that?
1. modem Motorola SM56 PCI internal 56K install problem in RedHat's Linux 6.1
Plz, help me to install modem Motorola SM56 PCI internal 56K [brand
name is SinglePoint, by Cnet] (not a Winmodem) on RedHat's Linux 6.1.
Commands `statserial /dev/ttyS0`, `statserial /dev/ttyS1`,
`statserial /dev/ttyS2`, `statserial /dev/ttyS3`, `statserial
/dev/ttyS4` produce output CTS = 0 and DSR = 0. But the manual sais at
least one of them should produce CRS = 1, DSR = 1.
Hlp Linux newbie, aka Windows Baby, to do things right.
There is no other serial devices in any PCI slots: the ports are
available.
