GCC: "makefile" not "Makefile"?

GCC: "makefile" not "Makefile"?

Post by Aron Hsia » Sun, 21 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I have just upgraded from GCC 2.7.0 to 2.7.2, from libc 5.0.9 to 5.2.16,
and to the new versions of ld.so and binutils as well.

Now, when I try to compile anything, make can't find "Makefile", only
"makefile".  I could do "make -f makefile", but for sources with nested
makefiles, it only is able to complete one level before it returns again.

Help!  What can I do?

GCC: "makefile" not "Makefile"?

If this really is a makefile, just rename it to "Makefile" and see what
happens.

Nonsense!!!

As already mentioned a dozen times by others it's due to the fact of

NOT READING THE RELEASE NOTES FOR LIBC5.2.16

1. GCC: "makefile" not "Makefile"?

I know this doesn't strictly match the topic of these groups, but I
thought that the individuals in these groups are probably the GCC and
such gurus, so I'll ask here anyway.

I just upgraded to GCC 2.7.2, libc 5.2.16, ld.so 1.7.10, and binutils
2.6.0.2, as well as the new GCC make for ELF and libc>5.2.x, and now,
whenever I try to use make, it can't find the makefile.  It finds only
"makefile".  If I use "make -f Makefile", it works for one level, but for
multi-level makefiles (such as linux kernel), it won't find any further
makefiles.

How do I fix this?  Can someone tell me?
