HELP: IBM Easy Option CD

HELP: IBM Easy Option CD

Post by micah voie » Tue, 03 Sep 1996 04:00:00

I am trying to install Slackware 96 on an old PC that I have and am
having a hard time finding the appropriate boot disk image for this
IBM Easy option CD model no 650.  This thing comes with its own
interface card.  I choose soundblaser and it seems to work even though
it doesn't plug into a sound blaster.  During installation it couldn't
find a CD during the scan for one.  So I forced sound blaster
selection.  During the installation I kept getting the following
errors

sbpcd-0[1]   sbp-data: CDi status loop expired
sbpcd-0[2]   sbp-data: timeout (timed out data)
sbpcd-0[3]   sbp-data: read aborted by drive
sbpcd-0[4]   st_check detected - retry

this sequence would sometimes repeat 2 or 3 times.  It always seemed
to happen after I choose weather to install a package or not.    The
installation worked regardless of these errors.

Anyhow, I would like to know what I should choose for a CD driver.
Please reply via E-mail.

Thanks,

I have an IBM Easy Options double-speed that says model CD654 on the
box, but is in fact a Mitsumi FX-001D repackaged by IBM (a not
uncommon practice for CD-ROMs).  I would hazard a guess that yours
is a Mitsumi as well...

1. Slackware CD installation from IBM Easy Option ISA CD-ROM

I am trying to install Slackware CD (Morse) on a IBM PS/1 machine that is
equipped with IBM Easy Option ISA CD-ROM.  The DOS driver for the CD-ROM
mentions Matsushita during bootup, so I believe that this drive is made
by Panasonic and I choose the sbpcd rootdisk.  However, the rootdisk
setup is unable to find the drive.

Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem?
