Newbie: I need mouse help pls...!

Post by Clinton McDonal » Thu, 01 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Hi all...

I'ev been reading all the comp.os.linux.* groups for about a month, and
read all the FAQ's etc I can lay my hands on, but I still don't have a
clear picture of how to get the wheel going on the MS INTELLIMOUSE
(either as a wheel or as a third button). Can someone *please* help
me..??!

TIA

-Macca

I can only talk about RedHat but prior releases did not support it.  I
think RH6.0 is the first release that supports it so if you have RH6.0
type 'mouseconfig' and chose the MS Intelimouse driver.  You also got a
3 button mouse option below.

Hope this helps
Ed.

The short answer is to go to this web page:

http://www.inria.fr/koala/colas/mouse-wheel-scroll/

The long answer is that you'll find instructions
there for binding your scroll events to mouse
buttons 4 and 5. XFree86 understands up to 5 mouse
buttons. Then, you're not done. You'll need to make
your applications aware that "mouse click 4" means
"up" and "mouse click 5" means "down" (or is that
vice versa?)

I have emacs, xterm, netscape, and tcl/tk all
working fine with my wheeled mouse.

1. Connecting To The Internet Using Linux Redhat 5.2---Newbie Needs Help Pls!

I've successfully install Linux Redhat 5.2 but unable to connect to the
internet using it.  I can connect to the internet using windows.  But when I
try to do so with Linux, it dials the number, then you hear the squarking
noise.  Then silence.  AT this time I try to "ping" the server to see if it
is working only to hear the computer redialing.  So basically, it calls the
number and then it hangs up.  To set up, I used the configurator and set up
"ppp".  The ISP I use says they use "chap" and not "pap".  During setup, I
did not see any tab for "chap" so I assumed it default to "chap", if I did
not check the "pap" tab.  Totally new to Linux and totally lost.  Been try
to get this to work for weeks....no more hairs left to pull out.  Can anyone
help?   Pls remember that I am new, really new and really lost.
