Just this afternoon I purchased the PCI version of the same card
for an older machine.
The AGP installed with Mach64 server as distributed on the RH CDROM.
I'll let you know if there I need to do anything unusual to get the
PCI card to work.
One hint, use "xf86config", not "Xconfigurator".
Save my email address in case you have problems and I will mail
you my config file.

Did you do anything special with the installation? Could you forward me
your config file?

If anyone else has got it working with this card, please let me know. I wonder if
RedHat 5.2 would make a difference...
And on the eighth day, God said: "Murphy, you're in charge."

I was eventually able to figure out (via the XFree86 FAQ) that if you have an ATI
card with TV output, you MUST DISCONNECT the cable from the TV out jack for it to
work. That's all I did, and now it works like a dream.
and All in Wonder Pro, and the 3D Xpression with PC2TV.
Hope this helps people: I was trying to get X working for 2 days before I figured
this out. I think I'm going to send an e-mail to the author of the Mach64 server
readme, to make sure this information gets included in there.

Same card ATI Xpert 98 AGP 8 meg
Xconfiguator had a bit of trouble with the card ( couldn't detect the ram ) but
aside from that it works.... now I get the same problem as you the coloum divided
screen or I did until my monitor blew and was replaced ( dont worry it was quite an
old monitor and it wasn't the first to go and the first never ran linux so )
Anyways.... do this when you run startx
press: crtl-alt-+ (if you press this again and again it will just cycle
through all possible resolutons and has the added benefit that it clears up the
divided column problem or it did for me... you can then use Xvidtune to adjust your
settings to permenantly correct this problem --I never did ).
Also to enable more than 256 colours you need to tell X to start using more like so
startx -- -bpp 16 ( or 8, 24, 32 --whichever you like )
Cheers
i'm totally new at this. could
you explain what you mean by disconnecting the cable
i keep getting this mesg, " none of the configured
devices were detected." when i type the "startx" command.
thanx
