Linux on Sun Ultra10

Linux on Sun Ultra10

Post by Edmund C. Green » Thu, 24 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Hello,

I am trying to do a network install on a Sun Ultra 10 (Sun Ultra 5/10
UPA/PCI [UltraSPARC-IIi 300Mhz]).  I have Ultrapenguin 1.0 and start the
boot but I get a message:

Strange OBP version 'OBP 3.11.9 1998/03/06 10:31'.

I obviously have the wrong version of the OBP (whatever that is), but it
seems like Linux is looking for one much lower (2.xx).  I don't want to
downgrade it (which I probably can't anyway).  Anyone know what the
error really means and a way to fix it?

If you didn't guess already, I am new to Sun and just wanted to put an
operating system I was more familiar with on this computer.

Thanks in advance.

1. solaris2.6 startup problem(sun ultra10)

If I had to guess, I'd say the Ultra10 has a cpu faster than 419MHz, and
the jumpstart server has a stock 2.6 install.

If so, take the 'environment operating CD' that came with the Ultra 10
and apply the patches to the machine.  (or get a full set of recommended
patches on the machine).

While you're at it, run the update-jumpstart script on that cd on the
jumpstart machine to patch the install image for fast cpus.
