CDROM timing out...help meeeee...

Post by Lee Newto » Fri, 10 May 1996 04:00:00

Hello, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me...
I've successfully installed Slackware Linux on my machine (using the CD)
When I'm in the Setup menu during installation and choose my source
media (being the CD) it takes a few tries to get the CD to stick. I keep
getting a sort of response timed out error message. Eventually it
catches and the installation runs fine. Later during boot sequence and
the kernel does the auto probe thing, it recognizes my CD-55A, but close
to the end when it says 'Checking for CD...' it never finds one. I can
try to manually mount the cd, but I get the message 'can't read
Superblock' I have read all the man pages and howtos, but I cannot find
a solution to this prob. Any help would be very greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance...
-Lee

1. RPC time outs at boot time

Recently I've just started having a problem at boot time, when my system is
starting up, I get a bunch of messages:
NFS Portmap: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Timed out.

I'm currently at a loss as to what to do to fix this.
The machine that is booting is set up to mount a few filesystems over NFS,
but it has booted up fine before.  Perhaps I have a problem with my
tcpwrappers setup? (denying ALL:ALL)

Thanks in advance for any advice, help, etc...
