Why is SuSE updates for 7.3 older than 7.3?

Can someone please explain this property of SuSE for me?  They
have the 7.3 directory of rpms, and also the updates for 7.3
directory.  The 7.3 (nonupdates) rpms are newer than the updates.

I discovered this after spending a few hours trying to determine
how to enable ext3 after I'd applied all the updates, but tune2fs
didn't have the -j option.

Also, in yast, is there an easy way to see the version of an rpm
before deciding to install it?

Thanks.

1. trouble updating to suse 7.3 via ftp

can anybody help :
i'm running suse 7.0 on a g4-powermac.
trying to update via yast i found out
that i need yast >= 1.10 to update/install
via ftp (i'm running 1.07.1).
so i tried to install the latest yast and
found out that i need glib >= 2.2 for yast >= 1.10.
since i did "rpm -Uhv --force glibc2.3.rpm"
i cannot use rpm at all anymore :
"rpm: ../iconv/skeleton.c:302: gconv:
Assertion `outbufstart == ((void *)0)' failed."
does anybody know how to repair this ?
is there a place where i can download the
latest CD-images for SUSE-7.3ppc ?
or can anybody copy the discs for me ?
any help appreciated...
