What video card do you have? Which version of X you are running?

X -showconfig

will answer my last question.

X desktop resolution and virtual desktop

Post by Bruce A. Lew » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

Hello all,

I've been trying to figure out how to tell the X system to
give me a resolution other than 640x480 on my X desktop and
to turn off the virtual desktop.

I have had zero luck on either one.  I despise virtual
desktops.  And it's kind of stupid to only have 640x480
resolution on a 20 inch monitor...

Any help in this regard will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Bruce Lewis

1. no virtual desktop, still the desktop bigger than the screen

Hi,

I have set up X in Slackware to run in the 800x600 resolution
with no virtual desktop. However when I start X windows, the
desktop is still a little bit bigger than the monitor screen.

It seems that this is not the virtual desktop problem because
the desktop is only *slightly* bigger than the screen, and
there is only one virtual panel available.
The problem disapears when I swith to higher resolution.

What may be wrong?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
