DIP pulse dial = NOT !

Post by Neal McEwe » Fri, 26 May 1995 04:00:00

hello, hello,
i recently upgraded to 1.2.1 kernel release.   dip is using pulse dial.
besides being slow, it is driving me crazy.
i've looked for anything that might be source related to dip, but
no luck.
any ideas on where to look for dip source so i can find the dial flag ?
thanks for your indulgence.

Why don't you simply say dial T012345... ?
This really should do the trick without any hassle.

I just added the letter 'T' before the phone number, i.e. "dial T1234567"
and it worked.  I don't know whether there is a more elegant solution.

Dave,
I believe that this the correct way to use dip.

This is the way all of my dip scripts are built.

Use 'send ATDTyour_phone_number' instead of 'dial your_phone_number'
in dip script. If it doesn't help find out a modem command that switches
your modem to a tone diling and send it to your modem before...

The following fragment is from my.dip file:

send ATTTZM0\r
...
...
dial 000-0000

I believe one of the Ts sets the dialing mode to tone. The M0 silences the
modem and prevents my wife from yelling at me :->.

If your modem's default is to use pulse dialing, the 'Z' will reset
it to use this value. Use something like
 send ATZTM0\r

instead.

1. DIP pulse dialing and dip.pid

Recently after upgrading my kernel dip has started to pulse dial instead of
tone dial.  Has this happened to anyone before? How do I fix it?  It's not my
init string, I know that.  Is it something to do with the dial library? Also,
no one except root can use dip without it getting messed up because it can't
write the dip.pid file to the /etc directory.  This didn't happen with
dip-3.x.xn, only with dip-3.x.xo.  Can anyone help?
