Downloading - Red Hat - 6.0 Under windows using Cute-FTP

Hi,

I have am trying to download the i386 version of red hat using my Cute-Ftp
program Under NT.

Some of the files are recognized as directories and not actual files and
Cute-Ftp is trying to CD to that file and obviously that fails.

Please let me know if you have run to this problem and if there is a better
way of downloading this Red-Hat 6.0

Thanks in advance ,

I think all you need in addition to the diskette images are RedHat/RPMS
and RedHat/base.  Those are easy to download, but take a *very* long
time at modem speeds.  Better to get the CDROM from Cheapbytes or Linux
Central.

Your problem is, Windows and the likes don't recognize the symlinks, and
when you try to download one, it will be converted to...a folder?!?
(weird, but true). To get over it, you can ask the ftp server to archive
and/or compress the directory/ies you want to d/l, i.e, instead of
get <remotepath/file> <localpath/file>
you can issue
get <remotepath/file.tar> <localpath/file.tar>
and the server will tar the files and directories before sending them,
thus preserving all files in their original format. However, not all
servers support this feature, so it might not work: try another server
then. I'm not familiar with this cuteftp, if it doesn't let you enter
commands, maybe you'll be better off with the DOS command-line ftp.exe

Hi Ramtin,

I don't know about NT, but I downloaded many Redhat RPMs through
Win95b using the Free (ADwear) version of  Go!zilla (see
http:/www.gozilla.com), as Windows tries to load any RPM file into
Realplayer (good conflict there with file extensions!).

There's probably a version of Go!zilla for NT.

This is true if you're trying to install Red Hat from a hard disk, but
it's NOT true if you want to burn a CD and install from that.  In that
case, you need the RedHat/instimage directory tree, too.

I've heard of a ftp client for Windows, that lets you ask directly for
tar'ed directories/files. I think it's called Leechftp or something. And
of course, there's xftp...but wait, it doesn't run under Windows... :)

1. Ip_masq_ftp kills IE4 & Netscape FTP, not CUTE-FTP, how to fix???

Hi there;

I'm hoping someone has seen this...

I have a properly working Masquerading system, connected to a Cable modem
(dialup on uplink, 10BaseT downlink).

Everything works just fine...

If I do NOT load the IP_MASQ_FTP module, then browser clients such as IE4 and
Netscape can download either via a redirect or ftp://etc.etc.etc

At the same time "dedicated" clients like Cute-FTP fail with an error
indicating that the "command did not originate from source address".

If I DO load the IP_MASQ_FTP module, then the dedicated clients work properly,
but the browsers fail. I know the browsers use PASV mode xfers...

Can anyone point me in the right direction to solving this?

All other programs work just fine.. Real Audio, WWW, Telnet, etc.

Thanks!
