SCSI tape drive on RH 6.2 error

Post by 10square » Sat, 24 Aug 2002 10:34:57

I'm having a problem with installation of a Sony SDT-11000 SCSI tape drive
in a SuperMicro 6021-H running RedHat 6.2 (software dependencies dictate
running this version and it is a supported drive). The drive is recognized
on bootup as an SDT-10000. mt status reports no errors. Running mt erase
results in a busy light flashing on the drive and a further mt status gives
a device or resource busy error until machine is rebooted. The machine has
two controllers and the tape drive is the only device on one of the
controllers, the cable is < 1 meter, the tape drive is connected to the
next to the last connector on the cable, and a terminator is installed in
the last connector position. Any ideas? TIA.

Cheers,

Jim

1. Scsi Tape Drive on RH 6.2?

Ok, I've got a working RH 6.2 system, Scsi controller(s).  I've got
a shiny new external VXA tape drive and cable.   And I've read every
How-to I could find on what happens next to make the linux system
aware of the tape drive, and what device names I should use to access
it.

Can anyone point me in a direction?
