junk that xdvi is coming out with when I run it. Here is one example
of some of the junk (there is a lot more of this) :

xdvi: Can't find font cmss9; using cmr10 instead at 600 dpi.
################ end of xdvi junk
It's obvious that two things are malfunctioning. First of all the tfm
fonts already seem to exist in
/usr/lib/texmf/texmf/fonts/tfm/public/cm
but xdvi ignored them. Secondly, it ran metafont to make the tfm
files, but then claimed it could not find them.
Now, this is not just a problem with xdvi, but also with dvips, so the
whole system is probably wrongly set up.
I should point out that I just copied the whole thing from the redhat
distribution so it is as redhat gives it out.
What should I do?
Thanks for your help.
