<1>Unable to handle kernel paging request

<1>Unable to handle kernel paging request

Here's the story, from the top.

I have a 386/25 /w FPU, 212 MB IDE, and 2 80 MB SCSI drives (AHA1520A),
4 MB Ram (yech) with on of the 80 MB SCSI drives as swap.

I installed kernel 1.2.3 and had a lot of problems with the machine locking up
during swaps, so I installed 1.2.8 last night (which was compiled on another
machine).  As a test, I tried recomiling the 1.2.3 kernel.  This morning I found the
thing locked up and the screen full of "<1> Unable to handle kernel paging request".

All drives check out OK (no bad blocks), and I am able to do a few things on the
machine, as long as I don't use a lot of swap.  DOS runs as well as is ever does,
and I can use high memory useage programs (aka DOOM) and it does OK, so I don't
suspect the memory or other hardware.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Please reply via mail as well as
posting.

1. Help-->Pentium: Unable to handle kernel paging request

I have a 120MHz Pentium with a Triton motherboard. I'm having trouble
setting up linux. I am using the ``bare'' boot disk and the ``color144''
root disk. The boot kernel uncompresses and root gets mounted and it
gets to the login prompt. I login as root and get the error message:

Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address c200000c

followed by some debugging info.

Anyone know what the problem may be? I can provide the debugging info and
more hardware details if necessary.
