Install on Laptop from Desktop??

Install on Laptop from Desktop??

Post by Tony » Sat, 17 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hello Gang,

I have a Laptop that I want to install Linux on (exclusively).  Problem
is, it only has a 340mb hard drive, and no CD-ROM.  I don't have enough
space to have the files reside on a DOS partition to install them FROM and
still have enough room to set up a Linux partition to install them ON.  Is
there anyway I can link my laptop to retrieve the files from my desktop
during the install?  (Without buying network cards, hubs, etc.)  Or at
least be able to access the CD-ROM on my desktop?  If no, what are my
install options?  (Please, not 468 floppies....)    :)

Thanks in advance,
Tony

Do you have a network available?  If so, you can do an install via the
network.

1. direct install on laptop via desktop-CD

The subject says it all: does anybody know if it is
possible to install FreeBSD on a laptop connected with
a parallel cable to a desktop (running Win95) with CD?

Or do I have to copy all files to a DOS-partition first
and install FreeBSD from there?

Sorry if this is a FAQ (I looked but didn't find it).
