Trouble with including SB16 MIDI support in 1.2.13 kernel

I've just installed Slackware 3.0 and I'm having a hell of a time
compiling a new kernel with proper support for my SoundBlaster 16 card.
I run 'make config' and answer everything correctly (IRQ's, DMA channels,
addresses, etc).  I then compile it and try the new kernel.  But there
is never any indication that the MIDI driver ever loads at boot-up.  The
SB Pro, SB 16, and FM synth show up fine but no sign of MIDI!  Is there
a problem with the config script in this release?  I've followed the
SOUND-Howto with no luck.  Any advice on this would be greatly
appreciated!
