Hi people, I wonder if you can answer a couple of my questions.
I have a Kinetic (VIA) motherboard with an Athlon CPU, and no soundcard
installed apart from the AC97 codec on the motherboard itself.
I had installed RH7.2, with no particular problems apart from the sound.
OSS tended to produce a lot of clicks and there were substantial delays
before a sound-playing was initiated and the result was output on the
speakers - particularly so with XMMS, which tended to become
unresponsive for a few seconds at irregular intervals.
So I tried to switch to the ALSA drivers, and everything is working much
more smoothly, but... when I try to record something I get 0s from
/dev/dsp - could this be a problem in my ALSA setup, in my hardware, or
do I need a special tool to record with alsa? (I thought cat </dev/dsp
>sample.raw might do it)
Anyway, thank you in advance for replying.
