HELP - Need Password for New VA Research System

Post by Tony Puja » Sun, 30 Aug 1998 04:00:00

I just bought my first Linux system from VA Research with Red Hat 5.1
pre-installed, but I can't find the piece of paper that came in the
box with the root password. . . .

Does anybody know if VA Research uses a standard password for new
systems? Can I salvage the situation with the rescue disk somehow?

Or do I have to wait for tech support on Monday --- argghhh!!!

Thanks for any help!

Tony

P.S. If you could c.c. me directly by email with any responses, I'd
really appreciate it!

When I took mine out of the box, the root password and the name and
password for my initial user account were on the first page of the
looseleaf binder with all of the hardware documentation in it.  Unless
you took it out of the binder, it's probably still there.

On the other hand, just type "linux single" at the LILO prompt to boot
in single-user mode.  Then type "passwd root" to reset the root
password.

1. VA Research Systems

Hello all...

I'm contemplating as to what my next hardware purchase will be and I am
fairly interested in the machines from VA Research.  Are they good
computers?  Has anyone heard something really great/really bad about
them?  How is the technical support?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
