This is a Toshiba Tecra 500CDT.
Any ideas how to get around this error.
I'm getting it on the first boot after
the install right after the memory check.
Thanks

I read about this a couple of months ago (can't remember where).
It's supposed to be an arcane left-over from the days when
computers didn't necessarily have any drives. If the computer
starts up without any drives, then the bios serches for a ROM
containing BASIC.
Being on a stable system as I am, I'm having some troubles
recalling what happens at boot-time. I think the drives are
detected by the bios after the memory check. So it sounds like
you either have a very misconfigured bios, or a loose cable in
your box.

1. Basic and Basic->C converter wanted
Looking for recommendations for what kind of basic (yes, basic) to run
on a 4.3bsd unix system (sperry 7040 (tahoe) to be exact). I have a
version of UBC basic that has severe garbage collection problems among
other things. Had Phil's Basic running under 4.2 for a while. Any other
ideas?
And if I don't come up with a decent working basic, are there any basic->C
comverters archived anywhere on the net, or for retail? I have a few folks
here who don't want to learn a real programming language. :-(
Email please... I will post a summary after a while.
