I am still having problems with dip, it tells me it has connected OK, I
type ifconfig and this is what is shown :-

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Bcast:127.255.255.255  Mask:255.0.0.0
UP BROADCAST LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:3584  Metric:1
          RX packets:28 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
          TX packets:28 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0

sl0       Link encap:VJ Serial Line IP
          inet addr:206.30.168.135  P-t-P:206.30.168.2  Mask:255.255.255.0
          UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:8 errors:0 dropped:0 compressed:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 compressed:0

Which looks ok to me.
I then type route and I get :-

Kernel routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask             Flags      MSS Window
Use Iface
206.30.168.2            *               255.255.255.255         UH      1500   0        0
sl0
loopback                *               255.0.0.0               U       3584   0        1
lo
default         206.30.168.2        *                           UG      1500   0
0 sl0

Which also looks ok, apart from the genmask of 255.255.255.255 but I don't
know how to change it. While the slip connection is in this state I try
pingin 206.30.168.2 and loose all packets, I then try telneting, get
nothing, same with ftp, then after about 1 minute the connection seems to
die and DIP stops running.

I really need help, I am beginning to get fed up with this.

Thanks
Jonathan

Did you properly setup your /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1, if you are using
Slackware96?
If so, you can just modify the NETMASK to 255.255.255.0.
