I have a problem. I'm tring to install Linux on my 486. I have a
Maxtor 7850 (850 meg hard drive) in the system. To use to whole drive (since
my BIOS only allows something like a 530meg HD), I have to run a program
called the OnTrack Disk Manager. It's a BIOS extention written to the MBR
that lets the system use the entire drive.
Heres the problem. It looks like with the Ontrack device driver
installed, Linux won't recognise my HD. It says my main DOS partition is a
type UNKNOWN and will not allow my to set up an unused partition on the drive
to install Linux.
I guess this is my question? Is there a patch out to cure this? Is
there a way around it?
Please e-mail me if you have any ideas!
Thanks
Jim
