RH 7.1 Install doesn't recognize CD-ROM

Post by Tom C » Tue, 11 Sep 2001 00:18:24

Hi folks,

Hopefully someone here smarter than me can figure this one out.  I'm
trying to install RH7.1 on an old computer.  I burned the RH CD's
using Nero Burning Rom. And I created the boot disk with rawrite (just
like the instructions on the RH site said).  Everything seems to go
fine up until it asks me "What type of media contains the packages to
be installed"  I tell it local CDROM and immediately it tells me it
cannot find a RH CDROM in any of my CD-ROM drives.  It doesn't look
like it even tries to access the drive (at least the little green
light doesn't come on).  There is no operating system on the computer
and I cannot boot from the CD drive.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks!

-Tom

RH 7.1 Install doesn't recognize CD-ROM

I am just a newbie.  I tried to install 7.1.  One of the first things
I had to do was remove my WEARNES CDRom.  On putting in a new 50x one,
it was just fine.  A fellow from my job said that it might not have
been an IDE type.  Don't know.  Just know what worked.

RH 7.1 Install doesn't recognize CD-ROM

Try and find out what kind of drive it is first (look on top of the drive
for a sticker/label).  It may not be fully IDE compliant.  Some old CDROM
drives had proprietary interfaces, and some even connected through the sound
card (original soundblaster days).  If it's a Creative Labs or a Reveal
brand, it may be proprietary
